- HI,
-
- I have a BEC 14400 Faxmodem with "voice disabled" mounted on a 386/40-DX.
-
- It dials, and the outgoing fax part works. It will not connect to any BBS -
- -most often because it claims there's no carrier, else it's "busy", and least
- often, because "Sprint service dropped out". I haven't yet been able to test
- incoming fax ability.
-
- When listening for a dial-tone, I hear music (Source is FM 102.9, Winston
- Salem, N.C.). I believe I've eliminated the Software as a cause. I do not get
- music on the phone that is on the same jack (A good loud dial-tone). I suspect
- the music is preventing my modem from "hearing" the carrier.
-
- The manual contains no jumpering or shielding instructions. Can anyone
- indicate whether it is the phone line or the modem and/or what remedy there is?
-
- Thanks, -Steve Beuttel-
